Why do we do cancer screening?

Early detection of cancer is imperative in achieving the highest cure rates for nearly all types of cancer. So cancer screening is considered one of the best tools to achieve the best treatment results and avoid the toxicity of aggressive chemotherapy or radiation therapy in advanced cancers.

What are the types of cancer we can screen? 

Breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer

How can we do screening for cancer?

This depends on the type of cancer. For example, breast cancer is screened by doing screening mammography, colon cancer by using a colonoscopy or fecal occult blood test, prostate cancer by PSA blood test, and lung cancer by using a low-energy CT scan chest.

Is there a certain age to do screening for cancer?

Yes, for every type of cancer screening test, there is a certain age that is suitable for  doing the test

Are there risks/dangers of doing screening tests?

No, the screening tests are designed to detect cancer early before it is clinically manifest and at the same time do not cause harm or damage to your body
