The magnitude of the problem
Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canada. In 2017 a total number of new cases of lung cancer was expected to be 28,600. In the same year, 21,100 cases of lung cancer were expected to die of this disease. Men were slightly more affected than women.
Treatment of lung cancer
Lung cancer can be treated in many ways such as surgery (in Non-small cell lung cancer), radiation therapy, chemotherapy and biologic therapy. Each patient has a specific treatment that depends on the tumour type, stage, age of the patient and his/her tolerance to treatment. Currently, naturopathic treatment is an integral part of lung cancer care.
How can naturopathic medicine help lung cancer patients?
Naturopathic medicine supports your immune system, synergises the effects of chemotherapy and radiation on the tumour, boosts your energy and helps you tolerate chemotherapy, radiation and biologic agents. Many naturopathic treatment modalities are used in patients with lung cancer such as high dose intravenous vitamin C, Mistletoe, Active Green Tea, adequate doses of vitamin D and Melatonin. Ask your naturopathic doctor to guide you to the best treatment options.
