What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a common skin condition that presents as a thickening of the skin, itchiness, skin irritation, and scales. It usually affects the elbows, knees, and sometimes the hands.

Many factors can contribute to psoriasis incidences such as lack of sun exposure, lack of vitamin D in the body, and stress.

Clinical picture

Red patches of skin covered with silvery scales

Dry cracked skin and sometimes bleeding

Itchiness or burning sensation

Topical steroids are usually prescribed by medical doctors and dermatologists to reduce symptoms and skin scaling.

Naturopathic approach

Naturopathic doctors look for the root cause of the problem, such as searching for certain triggers that may aggravate the lesions, and looking for potential causes such as poor skin health or stress.
