What is meant by (Risk Factors)?

Risk Factors are Conditions or Situations that increase the possibility of having Breast Cancer in the population.

In Ontario, Canada, and Toronto in particular, Breast Cancer is considered by far the most common type of cancer among women in this city, mounting approximately 25% of all New Cases of Cancer.

According to Toronto, Public Health website   https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/85a1-tph-hsi-breast-cancer-may-16-2017      Since 2003, the Breast Cancer Hospitalization and Mortality rates have been in a decline until now, which means good news for patients with Breast Cancer in this city. Compared to other cities in the Province, Toronto has the highest hospitalization rate so far,   but the lowest mortality.

What are the Risk Factors for Breast Cancer

Personal History of Breast Cancer: Patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer in the past, are more liable to get new breast cancer if compared to the general population.

Family History of Breast and other Cancers: Hormone-sensitive cancers such as Ovarian and Endometrial Cancers if present in the first degree relatives are considered a high family related Risk Factors

Reproductive History: Research revealed that women who are not pregnant or have low parity are more liable to have breast cancer than others who have children.  

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT): Women who receive hormone replacement therapy during their reproductive life have more chances to develop breast cancer than those who don’t use the HRT.

Oral Contraceptives: Patients who used oral contraceptive pills for more than 10 years are more liable to develop Breast Cancer than those who don’t use it or use the pills for a shorter period. 

How can you reduce your chances of having Breast Cancer? 

The simple answer to this question is to avoid as much as you can the Risk Factors mentioned above that can lead to the development of Breast Cancer.
