Posted Jun 29th, 2022 in Naturopathic Medicine, News, Tips

The role of minerals and vitamins in Cancer Care has been a hot topic for many decades. One of the most searched minerals in Cancer Care is Zinc.

The topic of this article is the Role of Zinc in Cancer Patients.

For many years, Zinc was considered an important mineral in supporting the immune system of cancer patients. Nevertheless, there was not enough clinical data on this subject until recently. In 2021, Hoppe et al published a systematic review of research in the Clinical and experimental Medicine Journal that studied the effects of oral supplementation of Zinc for patients with Head and Neck Cancers who were treated with Chemotherapy, Radiation, or a combination of Chemotherapy and Radiation.

1120 Patients were studied in this research, and it was concluded that the administration of Zinc to patients with Head and Neck Cancers Reduces their Mucositis or Inflammation of the Oral cavity due to Radiation Chemotherapy or Both. However, it was not effective in improving dry mouth or weight loss and it didn’t change the survival rates.

So, in conclusion, administering Zinc during the treatment of patients with Head and Neck Cancer is safe and reduces the incidence of mucositis or inflammation of the mucous membrane.
