Omega 3 Fish Oil and Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer is one of the most aggressive types of cancer and in the last few years, a progressive increase in new cases was noticed. Smoking has been a factor in the incidence of lung cancer, nevertheless, there is another trend of the rise of lung cancer cases among the nonsmokers as well.

Patients with lung cancer tend to have a lot of inflammation, weight loss, and fatigue, and these symptoms can impact the immune system and the tolerance to medical and natural interventions.

This research explored the role of Omega-3 Fish oil in patients with Lung Cancer in terms of overall nutrition, and general performance. In this study, 60 patients were included and were randomized prospectively into 2 groups one group was administered Omega-3 Fish oil, and the other one was given a placebo instead.

After 4 months, each group was assessed regarding the nutritional status, and it was found that the group who were administered Omega-3 Fish oil were significantly higher in body weight, Albumin(Blood test for the protein level), and their inflammation markers were much better than those who had the placebo only.  

It was concluded that Omega-3 Fish oil improves the Nutritional Status of Patients with Lung Cancer and markedly reduces their inflammation.
